The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures and means of prevention for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder, Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion, or a family’s ability to pay.

HOW IT ALL STARTED…
In October 2012, a team of Special Operations members raided a house in northern Afghanistan in search of a High-Value Individual (HVI). Immediately after their helicopters landed, the team came under intense machine gun fire. Ryan Savard rushed towards the gunfire to suppress the threat and defend his teammates but was killed while defending his teammates so they could safely get off their helicopters. Two other team members were wounded that night while attempting to provide medical aid to Ryan.
Our Mission is to honor the fallen U.S. Special Operations Forces and enhance the quality of life of wounded members.

It’s simple: we do it for them because they do so much for us. We have heard time and again that these elite military members seek connection and brotherhood. They want to feel human again. We help them find that within themselves. Through structured activities and mentorship, we assist our military’s active-duty special operations forces in reconnecting with themselves, their families, and society. The BSB program builds trust, encourages engagement in activities and discussions, and facilitates decompression.

★ What We Do ★
Our mission is driven by a desire to honor the sacrifice made in service to our country by providing “cradle to career” educational support to children of fallen Special Operations Personnel and spouses, as well as all Medal of Honor Recipients. From a “battlefield promise” made in 1980, the SOWF program has grown to include immediate financial support to severely wounded, injured, and ill Special Operators. By providing this support, SOWF aims to help these families build brighter futures despite the challenges they face due to the loss of a loved one.
